Despite the widespread need to access information on Italian cultural heritage in different languages, there are neither dedicated tools (dictionaries, reference texts on specialized translation) nor training centers in Europe that can adequately prepare or support translators or other figures active in the field of cultural tourism engaged in the "transmission" of this knowledge. The Lexicon of Cultural Heritage research unit, established at the Department of Languages, Literatures and Intercultural Studies of the University of Florence in 2013, aims to fill this gap by promoting the implementation of studies, research and other activities focused on the lexicon of different languages in relation to the Italian language in the context of the cultural heritage of the city of Florence, a model for other Italian artistic cities.
