Linguistic and Oriental Studies Section

The Linguistics and Philology of Foreign Languages and Oriental Studies Section revolves around a set of interests and scientific and research expertise focused on the internal investigation of language through associated methodological and theoretical specificities: history of language and grammar of specific languages, historical-philological investigation of texts, descriptive and typological analysis, theoretical models, applicative and experimental perspectives in linguistic investigation, and academic and literary translation. This Section also aims to foster scientific activity regarding didactic application and experimentation of new methodologies and tools for the transmission of knowledge and linguistic skills necessary to improve teaching within the FORLILPSI courses of study, a core value of the department.

In addition, the Section includes the specialization and linguistic, literary and historical-cultural study related to Oriental Studies, a part of an ancient and prestigious tradition of the university which dates back to the Istituto di Studi Superiori. This ensemble of descriptive and theoretical contents and methodologies particularly reflects consolidated lines of research, also in terms of international relations, with support from the rich bibliographic tools present in our specialized classrooms and the city’s libraries. This complex of skills and knowledge lends a new and recognizable physiognomy with regard to the relationship with other university structures, students, the degree courses (including the LM 36 "Languages and Civilizations of the Ancient and Modern Orient"), and external institutions. Moreover, it reflects competences relevant to national and international research projects, some of which are already underway, and in particular to the functioning of the PhD.
